We are excited to share an update from our partner, Brave Software and their BAT Mercury launch. The Brave Payments system (which anonymously and automatically supports users’ favorite websites) now has an integrated BAT wallet that can easily link to your Uphold account in order to send, receive and convert value between BAT and any of our supported currencies.

What is Brave?

Brave is a web browser on a mission to fix the web’s broken advertising paradigm and greatly enhance the Internet user experience. The Brave browser introduces a safer, faster and more private web browsing alternative than the current standard. Additionally, Brave’s ingenious idea is to provide users with an opt-in share of the $59.6B+ Internet advertising market by directly monetizing users’ attention and cutting-out the middlemen that today game the system, take an outsized share of the economics and otherwise gum-up what should be a faster, less cluttered, more private experience. By providing incentivized support for content creators through their BAT ecosystem of rewards, and providing advertisers with greater transparency and more-direct, higher impact tools, the Brave browser is a Win-Win-Win for advertisers, publishers and internet users alike. Brave is open source and built by a team of privacy-focused, performance-oriented pioneers of the web, founded by the inventor of Javascript and co-founder of Mozilla, Brendan Eich.

What is BAT?

Last month we announced the support of BAT (basic attention token) an Ethereum-based utility token. BAT is intended to radically improve the efficiency of digital advertising by creating a new token that can easily be used among publishers, advertisers, and users in the new blockchain-based BAT digital advertising and services platform.

What does this mean for Brave users? Brave users can now fund their BAT wallets via their Uphold accounts. Brave users can hold value across any of our 29+ supported currencies and easily transfer between their BAT and Uphold wallets instantly with just a few clicks. Additionally, Brave-verified publishers (or publishers planning to verify as Brave publishers) can start collecting their contributions after establishing an Uphold account.

This launch is an important next step towards our vision of creating a digital ecosystem that provides Uphold members with safe, convenient and transparent access to a wide range of digital money options.
