Pay anyone, virtually anywhere
You can send cryptos, national currencies or precious metals instantly and free of charge worldwide. Remit funds to friends and family abroad in the currency they need, or pay bills in anything from Bitcoin to USD. Using auto convert, you can even post Bitcoin and exchange it into GBP, USD or 25 other national currencies. So you get to send the currency you want and your friends get to receive the currency they need.
We charge zero-commissions for buying and selling currencies and other assets. We’ve chosen this model because it’s easy to understand and all-inclusive. The price you see before you trade, is the price you pay when you trade. Unlike some platforms, our prices are locked in pre-trade. This means we don’t add an undisclosed spread during the transaction reducing the amount you receive. Commission-free does not mean that Uphold is free: we charge for certain activities and add a small spread into the price of the asset being bought at Preview stage: it’s typically 0.8-1.2% in the price you pay to buy bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the United States. If you live outside the U.S., you'll pay a little more. We are significantly cheaper than our competitors in the crypto retail space and encourage you to compare our pricing.
On Metals, we charge a spread of 3% on top of the bid-ask from our metals suppliers.
CAUTION: PLEASE CHECK THE RATES CAREFULLY ON THE PREVIEW SCREEN BEFORE YOU TRADE. ON LOW LIQUIDITY CRYPTOS AND METALS, THE UNDERLYING SPREADS ON A TRANSACTION CAN WIDEN SIGNIFICANTLY DURING TIMES OF HIGH MARKET VOLATILITY. THIS IS NOT A SOURCE OF EXTRA PROFIT FOR UPHOLD, BUT AN ADDITIONAL COST OF DOING BUSINESS THAT WE HAVE TO PASS ON TO YOU. WE REGULARLY ADD NEW EXCHANGE CONNECTIONS AND OVER TIME OUR PRICING ON NEW LOW-LIQUIDITY ASSETS WILL IMPROVE.
PLEASE EXERCISE PARTICULAR CAUTION ON THE FOLLOWING CRYPTOS:
- CRED (LBA)
- Ziliqa (ZIL)
- Orchid (OXT)
- Universal Protocol Toke (UPT)
- Chainlink (LINK)
BE AWARE THAT SPREADS FOR METALS HAVE WIDENED SIGNIFICANTLY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC REFLECTING HEIGHTENED DEMAND.
You can withdraw your funds at any time to banks in almost 40 countries, or to private wallets on seven crypto networks. We do not charge withdrawal fees unless you are using the SWIFT network in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia and Romania. In these countries there is a 20 US Dollar or equivalent fee per withdrawal. We do charge standard network fees for withdrawals to crypto networks because we bear a cost.
