The Nike Sprint No One Saw Coming
The major stock indexes all finished yesterday in the green, although a rather unexpected rotation took place.
While the beleaguered-of-late, tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite eked out a 0.1% gain, the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1%.
In part, the Dow’s incongruous rise owed to an out-of-the-blue surge by shares of an out-of-favor sneaker-maker, Nike (NKE), which gained about 5% during the Thursday session.
The footwear company’s run was not connected to any specific piece of news; rather, it was part of “a broader market rotation from high-priced tech stocks to value stocks in areas like the consumer discretionary sector,” The Motley Fool explained.

Altcoins Endure Rough Week
Bitcoin managed to remain above $81,000 after a shaky start to Thursday, with the biggest crypto drifting toward $80,000 as the global AI trade continued to unravel. By Thursday night, however, BTC had reclaimed $82,000.
BTC’s flat on the week. Most major altcoins, including Ethereum, XRP and Solana, stayed mildly in the red (down 1%-3%) over the past seven days, according to CoinGecko. Several altcoins have endured an exceptionally difficult past week. These include MemeCore (-23%) and Lighter (-16%).

Pearl Chain Trades Hash Puzzles For AI Math
Pearl, a layer-1 chain built on Bitcoin’s code, has crept into the Top 100. Its native PRL has skyrocketed more than 200% since mid-September. PRL’s market capitalization now stands at about $660M, according to CoinGecko. What’s Pearl got going for it? A kind of a unique mining narrative as it turns out.
In BTC mining, specialized hardware – called Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) rigs – solve Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA 256-bit) cryptographic puzzles that amount to high-speed guessing games.
Instead of solving SHA-256 puzzles, miners do “matrix multiplication,” or the same math that a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) uses to run AI models. Pearl has said its mathematical breakthrough “enables every GPU cycle powering AI systems to simultaneously produce a native digital currency.”
However, there’s at least a few major catches.
“Miners can feed in fake data,” AMBCrypto said, “and still earn PRL.”
In addition to non-usable mathematical outputs and skewed incentives, the systems that run AI models via Pearl can, added AMBCrypto, experience significantly slower speeds.
