GODS is the protocol’s native currency. It’s a governance/utility token used to buy in-game items and pay transaction fees. GODS enables holders to vote on future changes to the protocol and can be staked to the protocol in exchange for additional monetary rewards, according to Messari.
Gods Unchained is backed by Immutable X, a layer-2 scaling solution tailored to serve non-fungible tokens (NFTs) operating within the Ethereum ecosystem. As of June 2021, the protocol’s asset base has been fully transitioned to Immutable X. According to Messari, the upgrade has led to measurable improvements to user experience and faster transaction speeds.
Similar to its physical counterparts, such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon, Gods Unchained allows players to collect, swap and sell unique trading cards. Each card within the ecosystem exists as an NFT, minted by Immutable X.
Cards can also be bought and sold freely via the protocol’s secondary marketplace. According to Decrypt, players receive 70 free cards upon signing up for the game. Additional cards are distributed via “packs,” earned though the game’s P2E mechanics or purchased with additional external funds.
