WHAT'S UP

In 'Santa Rally,' Bitcoin Cracks $51,000, Alts Crackle Green

A glorious, green-covered December 24th rally has Bitcoin securely above $51,000 and an array of altcoins fully ablaze.

BTC jumped 5% overnight. Cardano (ADA) is up 5% as well. So is Solana (SOL). Ethereum rose 4%.

CoinDesk said: "A ‘Santa rally’ ahead of Christmas gripped crypto markets on Friday with most large-cap coins showing gains over 24 hours.”

WHAT'S DOWN

Soaring SAND Suddenly Slips Slightly

The holiday week recovery has been kind to metaverse projects, or what some are now calling "GameFi" coins.

For example, The Sandbox (SAND) is a metaverse-based, play-to-earn project that, like Axie Infinity, combines gaming and decentralized finance (DeFi).

SAND surged nearly 20% in the past 24 hours. One month ago, SAND reached an all-time high near $8.50. It has since shed one-fourth of its value.

A check of SAND at 8:45 a.m. (EST) shows momentum slowing suddenly as it is now slightly red over the past hour.

WHAT'S NEXT

If Bitcoin Can Make It Through December ...

Better watch out, BTC watchers. Here’s why. Once it surpasses $51,000, and remains there for, say, more than one day, assuming it does, a difficult hurdle awaits: call it $56,800.

Inflows abundant, BTC rose to $51,000 on the eve of Christmas Eve and into Christmas Eve morning; as of 9:15 a.m. (EST), BTC was knocking on the door of $51,300.

If that door winds up not flinging wide open by Christmas morning, blame large-volume investors taking profits at the top end of the current BTC trading range (Cointelegraph).

“It is better to watch out until BTC breaks $51K levels,” CryptoQuant cautioned.

TANGENTS

Making An Omnsicient Machine

"Supply chain" coin OriginTrail (TRAC) garnered attention during the past 12 months (+480%); and while much of its autumnal rise owed to "on-the-news" trading – headline-grabbing supply chain bottlenecks somehow equating use-case explosiveness, driving a buy trend, the short-lived nature of which mostly anyone could see coming – the wonkier crypto enthusiasts are talking up the OriginTrail Decentralized Network (ODN). It plays host to "The OriginTrail DKG." That stands for decentralized knowledge graph.

A key underpinning of AI, knowledge graphs (AKA semantic networks) are a type of knowledge base (a data storage term of art) that integrates sets of complex data into a graph-structure, or representative topology, connecting layers of topics/subjects/workflows.

Diffbot, we learned via a not-too-regrettable rabbit-hole traipse, is building the biggest-ever knowledge graph, applying image recognition and natural-language processing to billions of web pages. It’s said to be a fully automated construction process, resulting in a … (gulp) ... universal factoid-question-answering AI system that supposedly can answer almost anything you asked it.
