What’s up

Brand New Blockchain Off To Races

Robinhood’s push into on-chain financial infrastructure is off to a heady start with an array of positive developments. These include the birth of a wildly coveted cat-themed memecoin as well as some impressive decentralized trading activity.

Launched July 1 on the Arbitrum technology stack, Robinhood Chain yesterday saw $500M worth of 24-hour volume via Uniswap smart contracts. Uniswap serves as the new chain’s primary automated market maker (AMM). Trading was reportedly driven in part by a mix of wrapped Ethereum (WETH) and tokenized stocks such as Nvidia and Apple. But the true breakout hit has been Cash Cat (CASHCAT), a token named after an old, forgotten-about Robinhood mascot.

Over the past two days, CASHCAT has catapulted by more than 1,000% on the chain that the prominent centralized exchange launched ostensibly to facilitate around-the-clock trading of tokenized stocks and bonds.

In related moves, Arbitrum’s native ARB surged 13% in the past 24 hours while UNI rose 1%. The latter token is up 10% for the week as traders seem to be pricing in elevated usage of the Uniswap protocol.

The Robinhood Chain’s $500M single-day volume figure is noteworthy. However, “longer-term activity levels and total value locked will be more telling indicators of whether Robinhood Chain becomes a durable fixture in DeFi,” said BSCN.

CATCOIN Fever Seems To Subside

Feline memecoin juggernaut CATCOIN quickly amassed a market capitalization of more than $100M. Some prescient and/or lucky traders have enjoyed some mondo-boffo returns, upwards of, in some cases, 1,000%. From its low of less than a penny, CATCOIN has soared 5,000%, per CoinGecko.

But the frenzy is already subsiding. The token’s Uniswap pool only boasts $6M worth of liquidity. Thus, it may not absorb even a fraction of the holders trying to exit, CoinDesk said.

CATCOIN has shed 13% in the past day. Its market cap peaked yesterday at $145M, according to CoinGecko. A check of CATCOIN as of Thursday morning revealed its market cap had shrunk to $92M, making it CoinGecko’s 277th-largest token. Its per-token spot price is now roughly 9 cents. CATCOIN’s record high of 14 cents came yesterday.

The Whims Of War

The U.S. and Iran may or may not be heading back to the negotiating table following an exchange of airstrikes. Either way, crypto doesn’t seem to care. Bitcoin gained 1% in the past 24 hours to reach $62.6K. BTC is up 9% since the end of June. Many large-cap coins, including Chainlink and Cardano, are slightly green today as well.

Over the past day or so, crude oil prices spiked, eased, stabilized but then, as of this morning, rose anew. Stocks cratered when tensions flared up but the major indexes have since rebounded.

President Trump told reporters Wednesday night that he does not know if the U.S. and Iran are returning to a full-scale military conflict. He also told reporters that Iran “badly” wants to make a deal.

Last month, the U.S. and Iran agreed on a memorandum of understanding to end the war that began on the last day of February. At the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday morning, Trump said the ceasefire between the two sides was over. Later in the day, U.S. Central Command said its forces had carried out another round of strikes. Of the Iranian government, Trump said, "I don't want to deal with them anymore."
