What is Swarm Markets?

Swarm Markets, a DeFi platform that integrates traditional financial assets with cryptocurrency, offering novel products and an environment for trading tokenized real-world assets alongside crypto. Swarm’s infrastructure can be accessed by both institutional and retail investors who want to issue, trade and custody tokenize assets.

Swarm Markets enables the tokenization and trading of a diverse set of assets, from stocks to bonds to commodities, blending decentralized technology with the liquidity and range of assets enjoyed in conventional financial markets.

The platform supports the issuance of new real-world asset-backed tokens. Unlike other RWA platforms, it also builds permissioned and permissionless trading infrastructure to suit a variety of market participant types from everyone in DeFi, CeFi, institutional investors and beyond.

Swarm caters to institutional entities like banks and hedge funds as well as individual investors, enhancing accessibility to various asset classes and financial products.

SMT Token Utility and Mechanics

SMT is an ERC20 payment token, and is used for platform fees, as well as to reward liquidity providers who contribute to the platform’s trading pools.

Where Did Swarm Markets Come From?

Launched in  2021, Swarm Markets was co-founded by Philipp Pieper and Timo Lehes, both of whom have extensive backgrounds in both traditional finance and tech. Their journey into the blockchain space began in 2016, launching open infrastructure for the tokenization of securities. This evolved into Swarm Markets, which builds liquidity solutions for those tokenized assets. By merging their backgrounds in technology, finance, and regulatory compliance, Pieper and Lehes have crafted a platform that addresses key barriers in the blockchain and traditional financial ecosystems.
